Freightliner donates

Headway Essex, a charity that provides brain injury care and support, was nominated by Bryan Foster, a Duty Control Manager for Freightliner Ltd based in Euston.

The charity runs the Headway Centre in Colchester which provides rehabilitative care to survivors of brain injury. The centre is open five days a week, and each day is structured differently to meet the specific needs and abilities of the clients who will attend once or twice a week depending on their needs.

As well as this, the charity also provides Community Support Services to assist both those who are living with acquired brain injury and those that care for them. This includes practical help such as helping people affected with their applications for benefit, and also including visits, advice, support group meetings, seminars and information days.

Bryan Foster explained that his reason for nominating Headway Essex was because his brother-in-law incurred a severe brain injury in a motorcycle accident in 2004. After this accident, Headway Essex provided support for both his brother and for his wife Linda over the last eight years. He said; “This type of injury can often be life changing not only for the injured person but also their relatives, friends, work colleagues and employers. Greater awareness of brain injury and its aftermath is needed as lives can be changed in an instant and that is why I nominated Headway.”

Jo Hockey, Fundraiser for Headway Essex said; “Headway Essex provided a vital lifeline to many people. We cannot provide our service without the support and generosity of businesses and individuals in the community, and we are so grateful to Freightliner Group Ltd for this generous donation.”
