BAA Receives Further Recognition of its Site Competence Audit Scheme

The British Aggregates Association (BAA) has been recognised for a significant health and safety initiative in the Construction Products Association (CPA) 2010 edition of Construction Products Innovation and Achievement (CPIA).

It is one of only 20 awards chosen for this year's publication, which annually showcases the most innovative products and processes created by the industry during the last twelve months or so. The scheme has been developed over the last three years and is endorsed by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) and the Quarries National Joint Advisory Council (QNJAC)"

Robert Durward, Director of BAA;

"This award recognises the unique contribution our scheme makes in demonstrating that quarries are being operated in a competent manner. It provides a practical solution to a problem that has long bothered health and safety professionals and is already being adopted by other professional bodies."

The BAA scheme provides an independent expert view on the safety of quarry operations and on whether compliance with health and safety legislation meets an acceptable standard. It is not intended to replace existing management practices but to reassure those ultimately responsible that both the management and operation of their sites are up to standard.
