Cemex colleagues raise £18,000 with 400-mile charity cycle

Colleagues from across Cemex have raised over £18,000 for disability charity, Sense, after completing an epic 400-mile length of the country cycle ride as part of Cemex’s wellness week.
Starting at Cemex’s Stockton-on-Tees office in County Durham on Monday 16 September, 9 colleagues from Cemex completed the week-long cycle challenge with a grand finale at Cemex’s Southampton office.

Along their epic cycle ride the team took in several other Cemex sites across the country including Dove Holes quarry in the Peak District, Cemex’s UK headquarters in Coventry and their National Technical Centre in Southam where they were supported and cheered on by colleagues from across the business.

Alongside raising money and promoting the vital work of national disability charity, Sense, who support people with complex disabilities to gain independence and achieve their potential, there were a number of wellness activities across Cemex sites, to promote employee wellbeing, build community and provide further opportunities for fundraising support.

Chiedza Mupfumira, Social Impact Lead at Cemex, said, “At Cemex, we are committed to creating a collaborative workplace, which promotes wellbeing and empowers everyone to achieve their full potential. We want to ensure that we foster an environment which is truly inclusive, where everyone feels a sense of belonging. Our ambitions in this area directly align with the incredible work that Sense carry out on a daily basis, and we’re excited about the opportunities to continue our collaboration with Sense as we embark on our own journey to become a disability confident employer.”

Representatives from Sense were welcomed to Cemex’s headquarters in Binley, Coventry on Tuesday 12th November for the final handover of the cheque and to lay the foundations for an ongoing partnership as Cemex takes its first steps towards becoming a Disability Confident employer.

Amanda Santer, Associate Director of Public Fundraising for Sense, commented, “This is just the beginning of our amazing partnership, and we’re excited for all the positive change we can create. Together with Cemex, we’re working to create a more inclusive and accessible workplace for people living with complex disabilities.”

Sense supports people with complex disabilities, including deafblindness, to feel connected and included. From the first weeks of life and through the major milestones of adulthood, Sense want to ensure that disabled people and their families are supported to live fully at every stage of life.
