CSL’s new Volvo EC220E delivered with a tinge of Gold
Groundworks and demolition contractor Clearance Services Ltd (CSL) of Maidenhead, Berkshire, has taken delivery of yet another Volvo excavator for its fleet of mobile equipment.
CSL are no strangers to owning and operating Volvo equipment having two smaller EC140Es, one purchased in 2015 and the other in February 2017 and another EC220E which also arrived in June 2015. The latest EC220E is an additional machine to the fleet and was purchased to satisfy the increasing number of groundworks and demolition contracts being undertaken by the company for its regular and new clientele base. “We consider the Volvo excavators to be top of the range when it comes to a strong and powerful performance and especially for me, the operator comfort is second to none,” comments Kofi Boulton, who is the son of the company’s founder Derek Boulton and the operator for the new machine. “All our excavators from 14 tonnes upwards are now Volvo excavators and besides their high level of performance we appreciate the after sales support from SMT GB when it’s needed,” he continues.
Not that CSL should doubt the support from SMT GB since apart from the new arrival, all their Volvo machines are covered by a Volvo Silver support agreement providing the family run business with a tool to budget for and track, with full visibility, the running costs of each item of plant. Regular six monthly reviews with the local customer support centre based at Horsham ensure each machine is monitored and its performance managed in a cost effective way.
For total peace of mind with the new EC220E, CSL has decided to opt for a full repair and maintenance package over the initial three years of the machine’s life, which has been wrapped up in a Gold agreement. The Volvo Gold, full repair and maintenance programme, is an enhancement of the Silver agreement with SMT GB taking care of all the necessary servicing and repairs using genuine Volvo parts and fully competent, Volvo trained service technicians.
Powered by a six cylinder Volvo engine developing 174 nett hp the EC220E offers the latest in engine technology and operating sophistication. For example pump flow is controlled for combined digging and swinging operations to reduce the flow loss through the overload relief valves, whilst maintaining digging power and maximum swing torque. When Eco mode is selected the machine provides better fuel efficiency without loss of performance in most operating conditions.
The Volvo Care Cab offers a large roomy interior with plenty of leg room and foot space. The excellent all round visibility is enhanced by pressurized and filtered cab air supplied by a 14 vent, climate control system. An adjustable easy to read LCD colour monitor provides real time information of the machine functions.
The new EC220E has been supplied in standard specification which includes hose rupture valves to both boom and dipper cylinders, quick fit hydraulics and hammer / shear hydraulic lines. It has also been equipped with the optional Miller Mate coupler alert safety alarm supplied by Miller UK Ltd. This was a requirement of CSL to satisfy the demand from a growing number of their customers on the subject of quick attachment couplers and the changing of attachments on site. This innovative safety system ensures the correct attachment changeover process is carried out by the operator and eliminates the risk of accidental release. An LED light and “Stand clear” warning system alerts workers on the ground in the vicinity of the excavator and the system is able to log and store records of prior functions.
