DB Cargo UK appoints new engineering director with sights firmly set on growth

DB Cargo UK has announced the appointment of a new Engineering Director to grow its maintenance and engineering business

Wayne Miller will take up the role in January 2026, with responsibility for its three major engineering centres at Toton, Stoke and Crewe, as well as the company’s numerous maintenance outstations.

Wayne, who is currently DB’s Head of Service Design, will take on the role at an exciting time as the company UK looks to expand its third-party client base.

Wayne, who has a BSc in Engineering Management and is a former engineer with the British Army, is ideally placed to lead the company’s growth strategy, having already worked in various senior leadership roles within the company.

Wayne joined what was then DB Schenker back in 2014 as an engineer, before becoming a Business Solutions Manager.

In 2017 he was appointed to the role of Account Manager in the Sales team, before being promoted to Head of Service Design in January 2023. During his time as Head of Service Design, he has delivered significant improvements in terms of process efficiency, performance and output.

DB’s Chief Executive Andrea Rossi said: “I’m delighted to appoint Wayne to the role. Wayne’s engineering background, his sales experience and broad, in-depth knowledge of how our business works, means he is ideally placed to ensure that our maintenance and engineering portfolio continues to grow.”

Commenting on his new appointment, Wayne said: “Thanks to the hard work and dedication of our highly skilled workforce, DB Cargo UK already has an enviable reputation for delivering maintenance and engineering excellence to the rail sector.

“Over the next few years, we will be making significant additional investment in our engineering facilities which will allow us to service an even larger and more diverse client base,” he added.

“We already have an impressive portfolio of customers in both the rail passenger and freight sectors, however our ambition is to add to the range of products and services we provide. It’s an exciting time for DB.”
