Family-run Widnes metal recycling business put on market for £1m
A scrap metal business which has been operated by the same family for more than 60 years has been placed on the market by its owners, who wish to retire. Steven and Karen Jones have instructed Blacks Business Brokers to find a new owner to take over AM Jones Scrap Metal Limited, with an asking price of £995,000...
The business, which turned over almost £500,000 in its most recent financial year, operates from a one-acre fully licensed scrap metal and ELV (end-of-life vehicles) site on the Tanhouse Industrial Estate in Widnes, Cheshire.
The freehold on this plot is included in the sale price, as are all fixtures and equipment, including a weighbridge, excavator with shear, scrap handlers/grabber, hooklift truck with skips and forklift truck.
AM Jones Scrap Metal was founded by Alun Jones, the father of current owner Steven Jones, in 1959. Steven and his brother John took the business over when their father died in 1994.
Sadly, John died in 2005, since when Steven and his wife Karen have owned and managed the business.
Megan Sutherst, sales negotiator at Blacks Business Brokers, said, “AM Jones has a fantastic reputation as a professionally run scrap metal business and, as well as a large freehold plot of land, the business is fully equipped with all the machinery that a new owner would need. Despite being six decades old, it is very much a 21st-Century business, with a modern website and social media presence.
“This is a great opportunity to acquire a forward-looking business in a great location, with a great reputation. I am expecting strong interest.”
