GWS Vacuum Equipment assists the UK’s Energy from Waste Industry

GWS Vacuum Equipment is regularly used for the vacuum collection of boiler ash and air pollution control residues from the UK’s Energy from Waste (EfW) plants.
This important waste treatment technology is also known as incineration. Incineration involves combustion of organic materials and substances to generate heat, which is used to produce power. It also converts waste into bottom ash, flue gases and particulates.
High-efficiency boilers are used to recover the heat energy from the flue gases. The heat energy is further converted into electric power through the use of steam turbines.
There are many benefits to be gained from the EfW process:

- EfW process recovers energy in the form of electrical power and heat.
- EfW diverts waste from landfill, thus preventing methane emissions, which can contribute to greenhouse gas emissions.
- The EfW process produces by-products, which can be recovered and recycled. Metals are returned to scrap recycling and inert bottom ash is used as a secondary aggregate.
GWS Vacuum Equipment provides a powerful vacuum performance, perfect for the recovery of bulk material during outages or shut-down periods. However, it’s significantly cheaper than larger lorry mounted vacuum machines and is compact, making it convenient for sites with limited space or access.
Our most popular combination of equipment for this type of application is our 50 Series Diesel Vacuum Machine used with a Filter Hopper. The Filter Hopper is fitted with a bank of highly efficient 1-micron filters, which stops virtually all material and deposits into convenient 1-ton FIBC Big Bags. This prevents the release of dust on site, making a safe, clean working environment for on-site personnel. It also minimises the impact of dust release for people living nearby.
