High Power, High Technology, HiTorc: The new Vecoplan VTH 600-1050 BT biomass chipper
For the first time, Vecoplan has integrated its HiTorc drive into a drum chipper...
Vecoplan is expanding the application range of its tried-and-tested HiTorc drive with the new Vecoplan VTH 600-1050 BT biomass chipper – and the company is now making this innovative technology available for its VTH drum chippers. The new drive concept offers users many technical and economic advantages, including a high level of energy efficiency and considerable savings in operation and infrastructure.
Drastically reduce energy consumption and increase performance at the same time? This combination is one of the key strengths of the new VTH 600-1050 BT biomass chipper with HiTorc drive from Vecoplan. As a long-standing technology leader, Vecoplan has been successfully using the direct drive in its shredders for many years. The first drum chipper with HiTorc technology celebrated its premiere at LIGNA.
A lot of wood: 40% energy savings thanks to the HiTorc drive
“We’ve been using the HiTorc in our single and twin-shaft shredders for years now with great success. With the new VTH 600-1050 BT, we’re now transferring this sophisticated technology to our drum chippers,” explains Dirk Müller, Vice President for Wood I Biomass at Vecoplan. “With the HiTorc, our customers can save up to 40% energy – and that’s an absolutely unique selling point in the wood processing industry.” The performance of the HiTorc has been extensively validated, in both internal test series and in real applications in the field. Thanks to the new drive concept, the VTH 600-1050 BT also scores with many other advantages: Thanks to its compact design, the HiTorc drive requires only about half as much space as conventional asynchronous belt drives. The absence of mechanical components is also a major factor in the reduction of wear and tear. Fewer spare parts mean lower maintenance costs and increased operational availability of the machine.
Full power in just three seconds
The HiTorc drive transmits the energy directly to the rotor shaft – without any intermediate gears, belts and reduction gearing. This achieves a particularly high level of efficiency. With a peak torque of up to 80,000 Nm, the HiTorc drive also has the necessary power to process even difficult materials safely and efficiently. In combination with modern frequency converters, the HiTorc drive offers users even more decisive advantages in daily operation: the system can be started or stopped within a few seconds. This also enables the automatic and precise positioning of the rotor – for a quick knife change, for instance. If foreign objects get into the machine, it can be brought to a standstill from one second to the next, and this significantly increases operational safety. Last but not least, the technology also allows flexible adaptation to different operating conditions and material requirements – for maximum performance with minimum effort.
