Is your waste management company dealing with your waste responsibly?

A considerable number, if not all FTSE 100 companies expect a certain level of service and product investment from their waste management company. These industry leaders need to know their waste is being handled within the industry-specific waste management requirements and that the service provided reaches the level of sustainability expected.

With some waste management companies processing in excess of 1bn tonnes of waste each year, it is vital that your chosen waste management company has the knowledge to process a wide range of waste streams but also has the latest equipment to handle it.

GBN Services are the leading skip hire, recycling and waste company servicing London and the South East and are making continual investments into the equipment at their six recycling centres. Over the past 30 years, they have developed a service and infrastructure to maximise recycling and diversion from landfill by using sustainable and pioneering solutions.

One of their most recent investments is at their Basildon site in Essex. GBN have invested £3m in new sorting equipment and a Dicom baler, which is believed to be the first of its kind in the UK. The baler wraps materials that cannot be further sorted. These materials are used to produce a refuse derived fuel (RDF) that can be used to generate power without the need to burn precious fossil fuels. The new baler has resulted in their Basildon site processing 182,000 tonnes of RDF each year, ensuring GBN can achieve maximum landfill diversion from their waste products.

GBN’s substantial investment demonstrates their commitment to continuing to help their customers with their environmental, health and safety and service level goals.

“This is a great step forward for GBN and demonstrates our efforts to continually innovate and help our clients divert as much material as possible from landfill. We have selected the best combination and configuration of sorting technology that will help us achieve the maximum recycling rates and ensure the production of good quality RDF,” states Tony Dickens, Director GBN Services.

“Following the investment at our Basildon site and to manage the demand of our growing customer base, we have recently installed a bespoke central system at our Uxbridge depot. The new system handles the 500 tonnes of C&D and C&I waste that passes through the site each day. At GBN we pride ourselves on recycling, sustainability and landfill diversion and our new bespoke system helps us achieve this for our customers.” comments Martin Carroll, Depot Manager Uxbridge.
