Lafarge Aggregates Limited Takes Another Landfill Crawler Loader from Liebherr

Following the successful introduction of a productive and reliable Liebherr LR 632B specialist landfill crawler loader at Lafarge Aggregates' Walleys landfill site two years ago, the company has now invested in another model. A "New Generation IV" LR 634 Litronic has recently been delivered and is now busy at Lafarge's non-hazardous landfill operations at Roxwell, near Chelmsford in Essex.

The Roxwell landfill is a well-established site, receiving large volumes of waste from the Chelmsford area.  Here, the versatility of the LR 634 Litronic is put to the test, moving, levelling and compacting the incoming waste, as well as spreading, dozing and grading landfill cover. The LR 634 Litronic is one of the latest models from Liebherr's Telfs production facilities in Austria and is an entirely factory built machine to the highest specifications for landfill duties. Additionally, the LR 634 features Liebherr's own new generation Stage IIIA / Tier 3 diesel engine, which not only produces excellent fuel consumption figures but is also compliant with all the latest noise and exhaust emission reduction requirements.

Liebherr's well proven and highly developed hydrostatic drive system remains at the heart of the LR 634, which now also includes the well-proven high-technology Litronic engine and hydraulics management system to ensure optimum output and efficiency at all times, as well as fulfilling a diagnostic rôle for maintenance and workover.

Standard landfill specification on the LR 634 Litronic includes all the necessary features required to protect the machine and operator. These include lift cylinder covers, external air supply alternator, exhaust manifold isolation, radiator guard, engine air pre-cleaner with automatic dust ejection, cooling system reversible fan, final drive protection rings and fine perforated plates to the engine housing. Also included on the Lafarge machine are rear striker bars, fuel tank protection, 610mm track shoes with trapezoidal holes and tilt cylinder guard. Additional operational safety features have been provided - extra twin rear lights, back-up alarm and cab roof beacon.

For the operator, the spacious cab on the LR 634 Litronic is a comfortable, functional and safe work station for optimum performance and minimum fatigue, is glazed with tinted armoured glass, fully ROPS and FOPS protected, lightly pressurized to prevent dust and odour incursion and air-conditioned. A fully adjustable seat, with ventral safety belt, includes twin joystick controls integrated into the armrests - one for travel speed and direction, the other for attachment movements; there is even a lockable storage space under the armrest, a cup holder, coat hook and a 12v electric coolbox.

Front end attachments on this model include a clamshell waste-handling bucket with trashguard and a 2m³ clamshell bucket with bolt-on or adaptors for teeth.

The LR 634 Litronic is a 21 tonnes class machine with a 14,148kg tipping load. Power is provided by a Liebherr made engine type D 934 L A6 which develops 135kW (184HP) at 1800RPM.
