Leading tipper fleet fits Edbro TS hoists for maximum performance and lifetime reliability
In September, 2015, one of the South East’s leading fleet operators, B P Mitchell Ltd of Hatfield, added 10 tipper vehicles to the road, having already expanded its fleet by 30 in March, 2015. All of these vehicles were fitted with Edbro tipping gear, considered by the operator to be most reliable product on the market.
BP Mitchell was set up as a single vehicle operation by Brendan Mitchell in 1990, but he had a burning ambition to develop and provide a multi-skilled service to the building and construction industry in an environment where quality of service and absolute reliability were the hallmarks that separated the ‘men from the boys’. Mr Mitchell is still actively involved in the company and takes great pride in personally supervising every project.
Like all previous BP Mitchell tippers, the new vehicles were fitted with Edbro TS series twin underfloor hoist assemblies, so benefit from the reliability for which these units are known. They are also renowned for their safe operation at all times, so will therefore be integral in helping BP Mitchell maintain and enhance its reputation for consistency in service delivery and product quality.
The construction sector is busier now than it has been for many years and needs increasing amounts of assistance from its support industries, such as transport operators. BP Mitchell is responding to this by expanding and modernising its fleet. As well as tippers it also runs many other types of vehicle including concrete mixers, and offers plant and skip hire, aggregate supplies as well as demolition and site clearance services.
The new tipper bodies are manufactured by the Canadian company Titan, but were assembled in the UK by BP Mitchell, meaning they are bespoke to the needs of British roads and industries. In fact, BP Mitchell is expecting so much interest in their new vehicles that they are even considering offering them to other fleet operators.
“We are always very mindful of our quality standards,” says Richard Tassell, Transport Manager at BP Mitchell. “So naturally we wanted to partner with a company that has historically been associated with a similar reputation – Edbro.”
The TS hoists are available in a range of sizes, providing a lifting capacity from 22 tonnes to 36 tonnes to suit each application. These capacities are 20% higher than the closest alternative product on the market. The tipping cycle speed is 13 to 20 seconds, again figures that set the standard for all current competition to follow. The combination of capacity and speed ensures optimised site turnaround time for maximum productivity.
The TS series units incorporate a high-tensile steel stabilising frame, which absorbs side loads during tipping, protects the cylinders and gives 50% more torsional stiffness than comparable units. The hydraulic drive cylinder is based around a one-piece tube construction which, coupled with increased tube contact faces, allows faster tipping speeds and is more robust than multi-piece alternatives.
