New Doosan 15 tonne Stage IV Reduced Radius Excavator

Continuing the trend set by the launch of the larger Stage IV compliant models over the last 12 months, the new Doosan DX140LCR-5 15 tonne reduced tail swing crawler excavator offers increased performance, durability and fuel efficiency, with a focus on greater power, robustness and versatility.

Higher Power – Lower Fuel Consumption
The DX140LCR-5 is powered by the Perkins 1204F engine, which combines reduced fuel consumption with the power and torque of larger engines with a smaller displacement. The new Perkins 1204F engine provides a 6% increase in power with an output of 85.9 kW (115.3 HP) at 2000 rpm and a 3% increase in torque. Swing torque has also been boosted by 28%.

Trouble-free operation is guaranteed by meeting Stage IV emission regulations without the need for a diesel particulate filter (DPF), through the use of cooled exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) and diesel oxidation catalyst (DOC) after-treatment technologies.

Fuel consumption has been lowered by up to 10% compared to the previous generation machine. As well as the Stage IV engine, new systems and functions have been incorporated to achieve this significant result.

For example, the current fuel consumption can be read directly on the LCD panel and the engine can be shut off automatically after a pre-set time when the machine is not being operated. In addition, to save fuel, Doosan has developed a special new system – called Smart Power Control (SPC) – to optimise the balance between the pumps’ output and the diesel engine.

The versatile DX140LCR-5 features an electronic power optimizing system (e-EPOS), which provides optimum power and fuel efficiency via four power modes (Eco, Standard, Power and Power +), auto-idle and machine diagnostics.

Operators can also work more effectively with the availability of four work modes (Digging, Lifting and 2 Hydraulic Tool modes), the easy-to-read display monitor and precise control levers. The four work modes give operators maximum efficiency and fuel economy in specific applications. In the Lifting mode, for example, the increased pump torque, low engine rpms and automatic power boost provide extra muscle when lifting items such as pipes and concrete barriers.

A new 7-inch TFT LCD user friendly colour monitor control panel offers an attractive display and excellent functionality. All functions can be controlled both from the instrument panel as well as via a new jog shuttle control next to the joystick, a feature exclusive to Doosan excavators. Flow and pressure rate control are also standard for convenient and easy adjustment to match the requirements of every attachment.

Increased Comfort and Controllability
The new operator’s cab in the DX140LCR-5 is one of the largest in the compact radius industry. Already excelling in spaciousness and ergonomics, the new cab has been further refined for outstanding operator comfort and ease of operation.

Being able to switch control of the auxiliary lines between the joystick and the two-way pedal greatly lessens any discomfort that may be caused by extended or repetitive use of the joystick alone to control attachments (such as a shear or a breaker). It is also helpful when precision is required – as the operator can keep full control of the excavator via the joystick while using the two-way pedal for attachments.

For additional convenience, the controls for the auxiliary lines on the joysticks have been repositioned, with the rotation and shear rollers positioned for left/right movement. The joysticks have also been shortened to reduce the effort required to operate them and an additional pedal for straight travel has now been installed on the left of the main travel pedals, a very useful feature when travelling straight over longer distances.

Lower Total Cost of Ownership
To further maximise durability and reduce noise, the DX140LCR-5 model is equipped with EM (Enhanced Macro-surface) bushings, which are also much more effective than regular bushings when greased.

To avoid permanent engine damage, an acoustic alarm has been added to call the operator’s attention to ‘water in fuel’. If the operator ignores the signal after several alerts, the engine and pump are automatically derated. In addition, to make it easier for operators to understand the importance of warnings and to communicate the proper warning codes, pop-up menus appear with detailed information with easier to identify warnings.

The Engine Emergency Stop Switch has been relocated on the side of the seat so that it is directly accessible from ground level, for faster access in case of emergency. A new comfortable grip has been fitted to make opening and closing the door easier. Star-shaped anti-slip plates ensure that the steps stay much cleaner and more effective and to meet new EU regulations, safety bars are standard. The DX140LCR-5 offers easy access to components for service work and the engine, pump, filters, radiator, valves and batteries are all within easy reach.

The DX140LCR-5 excavator is offered as standard with a 2.59 m width, 600 mm steel shoes and with monobloc front working equipment. Among numerous options offered are articulated front working equipment; sturdy dozer blades and 500 mm rubber track pads (reducing machine width to 2.49 m). The last mentioned above are ideal for reducing damage to asphalt roads on urban work sites.
