New Primary Screen at one of Kents biggest Sand & Gravel plants

Nearly 12 months have passed since Hewitt Robins successfully supplied a replacement screen to the UK's largest independent producer of sand and gravel, located in Kent. Tasked with replacing a worn-out and outdated screen, Hewitt Robins took on the challenge with a customer-focused approach, delivering a high-performance solution that has since exceeded expectations

The Hewitt Robins engineering team designed a new screen that would seamlessly fit into the existing footprint, requiring minimal modifications to the plant infrastructure. Beyond simply replacing the old equipment, the team took the time to analyse the issues with the previous screen and engaged with the customer to understand their specific needs and desired improvements.

In response to customer feedback, the new screen design incorporated enhanced access between the decks for easier maintenance and introduced a rubber curtain at the back of the machine, significantly simplifying upkeep tasks. These modifications reflect Hewitt Robins' commitment to not only providing robust machinery but also ensuring that it is user-friendly and tailored to the operational needs of the client.

The result is the Hewitt Robins 3.0m wide x 6.5m long Extra Heavy Duty Double Deck Screen, capable of handling up to 700 tons per hour (tph) of premium sea-dredged sand and gravel. The screen efficiently washes material at a 25mm top deck and 5mm bottom deck, utilising Tema Isenmann polyurethane modulars for durability and performance.

Given the challenging environment, with exposure to sand, salt, and water, the new screen was fully metallised and treated with a three-layer polyurethane paint protection, ensuring long-lasting resistance to the harsh conditions. The inclusion of a 2QV14 pod-type vibrator unit features self-synchronising capability, eliminating the need for timing gears, heavy eccentric shafts, or beams.

The installation of the new screen was undertaken by Thor Atkinson, who also provided new chutes, underpans, and additional steelwork. The project was completed on time and within budget.

Since its installation, the Hewitt Robins screen has been performing exceptionally well, consistently delivering the desired output and maintaining peak efficiency under demanding conditions and the customer is delighted with the screen's performance over the past year.
