New trommel next step in £7million investment programme for Saint-Gobain Formula
The Hercules HT182C heavy duty trommel screen, manufactured in Shropshire by Stelex Construction Equipment Ltd, weighs 77 tonnes and pre-screens rock from the quarry to remove clay and mudstone attached to the gypsum to improve quality and recovery.
The newly-installed trommel will support one of Formula’s key objectives of reducing airborne dust emissions from the site, having been fitted with additional spray bar dust suppression units and bespoke extended side panel screens to partially enclose the unit.
It is part of a new processing plant which includes a Tesab 800i jaw crusher, a Trackstack 8042 TSL Radial Stockpiler, a Tesab TS2430 Screen and a bespoke tracked mobile MMD sizer, all of which have been supplied new to the site by Banner Equipment.
Bantycock Quarry Manager Kevin Glasper says: “We are investing £7million in new plant and equipment, in improvement of site infrastructure, and in training and developing the inherited workforce. This means we are now well-placed to meet future demands while setting the highest possible standards of health, safety and environmental performance.
“The commissioning of the trommel represents the final piece of the investment in the whole new processing line and I am really looking forward to seeing it all in operation.”
Andrew Banner of Banner Contracts adds: “We were delighted to be awarded a long-term contract with Saint-Gobain Formula at Bantycock Quarry and look forward to optimising the performance of this new equipment in the coming months and years.”
The site produces gypsum and plaster for use in the manufacture of high-specification products for dentistry, food and ceramics as well as important construction grade gypsum for plaster and plasterboard products at plants of sister brand British Gypsum in Nottinghamshire and Leicestershire.
