O'Brien demolition sale attracts serious buyers

Euro Auctions hosted a one-day sale for G O'Brien & Sons on 22nd September at their Wallsend Aggregate Centre, Tyne and Wear. Attracting a global audience of seasoned industry buyers, the lots on sale did not disappoint.

This highly anticipated auction included over 570 lots of specialist demolition equipment and machinery, including tools and attachments for sale. 480 prospective bidders from 41 countries registered to participate in the sale with 77% of all successful bidding being conducted online.

This truly international audience came from Europe, the Middle East, Far East and the USA.   The global reach of the pre-sale marketing by Euro Auctions to specialist buyers resulted in high demand with the international bidding audience keen to acquire the stock on offer. This was reflected in the strong pricing on the day.

Matt Wood, Territory Manager for Euro Auctions, explains the significance of this sale. "This sale attracted a very specific audience of industry specialists who knew exactly what they were looking for. Some of the items for sale rarely come to market and that piqued the interest of international bidders. Seeing that 77% of successful buyers were online demonstrates how euro auctions can accommodate buyers around the world without the need to travel to sales. Euro Auctions attracts an international audience to all its sales and this was no exception, with buyers coming from Europe, The Middle East, the USA, and even Iceland. Prices were strong and with a catalogue of well-maintained specialist demolition equipment and tools, interest was very high."

"This was an exciting sale and O'Brien Demolition were very happy with the execution by Euro Auctions, the results and the prices achieved on the day. The demolition industry is a very specialist market and is an area where we have expertise which was highlighted in this sale."

Off-Site Sales

The ability to organise a successful ‘off site’ heavy machinery auction, such as the G O’Brien Demolition sale, is what sets Euro Auctions apart from the rest of the industry. This involves operating the sale away from the infrastructure of the permanent Euro Auctions sales sites and hosting it at a client’s site or a neutral location. Euro Auctions customers include owners retiring or restructuring their businesses, plant hire companies rotating stock or liquidators forcing a sale. One such notable 'off site' auction hosted by Euro Auctions was the world’s largest crane sale. Hewden’s stock of 127 mobile cranes were sold in one day on the runway at the Newark Showground, with a final hammer of €32m (£28m).

Matt Wood explains, "The Euro Auctions team are well practiced in hosting successful off site auctions. Arranging a sale is a complex process involving a number of phases. This includes valuing and cataloging the lots, marketing to attract buyers and secure registrations as well as preparing the machines and site layout for the auction day.  However, we pride ourselves in making this process easy for the seller whilst returning good prices.”
