Proven technology rethought: JT RecTec launches semi-autonomous turner on the market

  • eWender E 350 can be operated by remote control
  • Reduced resource consumption and lower emissions thanks to electric drive system
  • Distribution since January 2023 by JT RecTec and a worldwide dealer network
  • Further turner models planned for 2023 and 2024

With its eWender E 350, the Velbert-based compost turner specialist JT RecTec heralds a radical change in turning technology. The semi-autonomous machine turns compost windrows independently; the operator merely monitors and controls the machine by remote control. Thanks to its electric drive, the eWender E 350 consumes significantly fewer resources than conventional models. Furthermore, it operates with very low emissions and low noise. JT RecTec has been exclusively distributing the eWender worldwide since January 2023. In addition, selected trade partners support in distribution. The market launch of further turner models is planned for the second half of 2023 and the beginning of 2024. As a subsidiary of LIG GmbH, the company can draw on extensive expertise in mechanical engineering.

JT RecTec managing directors Thomas Hölscher and Jens Wiechmann are united by a common dream: they want to rethink turning technology and lead it to automation. Before founding the company for this purpose in December 2021, the two machine specialists had already been working in the field of composting and turning technology for 30 years. "Maintaining the status quo was no longer enough for us at some point. We wanted to advance turning technology through true innovations for our customers," explains Thomas Hölscher.

Support is provided by LIG GmbH as well as its subsidiary Doppstadt. "Both companies have many years of comprehensive expertise in environmental technology. With Doppstadt as the industry leader in the field of processing technology and LIG, we have strong partners at our side," says Thomas Hölscher.

A new approach to turners: semi-autonomous and electric

With the launch of the eWender E 350 in January 2023, JT RecTec has achieved a first milestone. The windrow turner, which was originally developed by the Austrian machine manufacturer Pusch & Schinnerl, does not require an operator's cabin – a great advantage, as Jens Wiechmann emphasises: "We have deliberately dispensed with the usual cabin in order to improve occupational safety. The operator controls the machine comfortably and from a safe distance with a remote control. This way, he does not come into contact with possible emissions and pollutants." In addition, the removal of the cabin has a positive effect on the economic efficiency and maintenance of the turner.

The eWender E 350 processes the compost completely autonomously. With the help of sensors, it recognises the windrow and turns it independently; the operator does not need to intervene. Thanks to this process optimisation, the semi-autonomous turner can process up to 1,500 m³ of material per hour. Its use is particularly suitable for municipalities with small quantities of waste, landscapers and agricultural businesses. Hölscher and Wiechmann's long-term goal is to fully automate the eWender.

Low resource consumption, no emissions

Thanks to its electric drive, the eWender E 350 is very resource-efficient. "We have determined an average consumption of less than three litres in practical tests. Conventional diesel engines, on the other hand, consume up to 15 litres per hour," explains Jens Wiechmann. Moreover, the turner does not emit any significant greenhouse gas emissions. The noise level is reduced to a minimum thanks to electrification; the eWender E 350 is up to five times quieter than a machine powered by a diesel engine. With a length of around 4 metres and a width of 2.5 metres, the windrow turner is easy to transport.

JT RecTec is exclusively responsible for the sales and service of the semi-autonomous turner. However, the Velbert-based company receives support from trade partners. "In Europe, we have already established many valuable partnerships in recent months. In the future, we will further strengthen our dealer network and set it up globally," says Thomas Hölscher.

ompany will present the eWender E 350 to the public for the first time at the BVOR Demo Day from 24 to 25 May in Brunssum, the Netherlands. However, according to Hölscher, interested parties do not have to wait until May to experience the new development: "We welcome everyone to our premises in Velbert at any time. We will be happy to demonstrate our innovation in person, and also on the premises of our customers." In addition, JT RecTec will be represented at the 34th Kassel Waste and Resources Forum from 18 to 20 April.

Further market launches planned for 2023 and 2024

For JT RecTec, the eWender E 350 is the first step for a comprehensive machine portfolio. The Velbert-based company is currently working together with Doppstadt on the development of two compost turners for larger material quantities. The presentation of the first prototypes is planned for summer 2023. A larger version of the eWender is also to follow at the end of the year. "In 30 years, we have acquired comprehensive expertise in mechanical engineering and sales in the field of turner technology. We want to revolutionise the industry with our ideas and concepts. We are now implementing this plan step by step," emphasises Jens Wiechmann.
