Rotar Demolition Attachments improve performance for Metropolitan Demolition

Unimpressed with other brands of demolition attachments Metropolitan Demolition also felt there was a lack of service and back up associated with any they’d previously tried. Michael Hurst their Director, had heard about the impeccable service record of Worsley Plant and the reputation of Rotar, so he approached Mick Reeve, Sales Manager for the North East to find out more.

Metropolitan Demolition has been operating out of Wakefield for 10 years specialising in demolition, industrial dismantling and site remediation across the UK. The company employs 25 people and has 17 machines including Doosan and Volvo excavators ranging from 25 to 75 ton, loading shovels, skip wagons, low loaders and a Volvo High Reach.

First off they tried a Rotar RG48 for 3 weeks on a project involving industrial dismantling in Wolverhampton for Express & Star. On this job Metropolitan removed 3500 ton of Crabtree Vickers newspaper printing presses. They used the RG48 Grab for loading scrap onto Wagons.

Impressed with the strength and power of the kit they decided to make the investment in three Rotar attachments – the RG48 Grab, a RG28 Grab and a RSS30 Scrap Shear.

Their first project using all three together was a £500,000 four month project at a former Thyssen Krupp Engineering Works in Kirstall Road Leeds. The project involved all demolition work down to slab level. They had 1500 ton of steel to process and 5000 ton of hardcore to crush on site. 90% of materials would be recycled on site. Ultimately the 200,000 square foot site will be redeveloped for student accommodation. The Rotar RG48 was used on a 45 ton excavator, the RSS30 Scrap Shear was on a 42 ton machine and RG28 on a high reach. Using the kit all together has certainly made the job easier and will improve performance and project timescales in the future.

Michael is delighted with the new kit and adds:

“The Rotar kit is a class above anything we’ve used before. It is better quality, has a greater performance and improved cycle times. Worsley Plant has provided brilliant back up too. Their installation and service is beyond compare with anything we’ve experienced before.

It’s a good competitive price based on two key elements – performance and service. You would need a bigger piece of competitive kit to get the same performance. For us, it’s a perfect investment and will save us time on future projects.”

Mick Reeve of Worsley Plant comments: “Rotar kit is known for being stronger and tougher. The initial investment may sometimes be a little higher but as Michael has recognised, the kit gives greater performance making it more economical as a longer term investment.”
