SCG relocate after 10 years of successful trading.
Recently in Scotland the HUB team visited SCG Supplies; a company that has grown and grown from very small acorns…
Celebrating their 10th year of successful business SCG Supplies have re-located to new premises in Airdrie, Scotland.
Founded by Stephen Grieve the business initially operated from his garage, before moving to commercial premises after a brief period.
Stephen, commented, “I was selling spare parts for major brands like Powerscreen, Sandvik, Finlay and the business grew rapidly, so before long we acquired premises to accommodate the stock. This growth was further influenced by a grant through Scottish Enterprise to establish the export side of the business which has over time become very successful.
This latest move to Airdrie comes as a celebration of those ten years and a re-investment in the business and with a footprint of three quarters of an acre the new premises are ideal to accommodate further growth and the portfolio of brands they now represent.
Fellow Director Paul Thorne, commented, “We have had a lot of success which is mainly down to our diverse knowledge of crushing, screening and washing aggregates. Being a parts dealer initially has also provided us with the base knowledge of the aggregate processing machines in the marketplace.”
Paul continued, “We have recently been appointed the dealer for Portafill in Scotland and Yorkshire which stands well alongside our long-standing relationships with Tesab, Bruce Engineering and Screenpod™.”
It is very rare to find a dealer that is involved in both crushing and screening and washing equipment, however as Paul pointed out there has been a partnership on the development of the Bruce Washpod and the Recycling Waterbath product ranges which led to SCG representing Bruce in the whole of the UK. This ‘washing’ experience combined with years of knowledge of the crushing business has positioned SCG prominently as a dealer of four major OEM’s in Scotland.
Paul, continued, “We have had immediate success with Portafill as demand has been very high and it will be some months before we have stock machines in the yard. Portafill has been a very good match for our business and although we have been approached in the past from other companies, this was one brand we knew was right. We are literally the closest dealer to the factory in Dungannon where they manufacture a complete range of robust mobile screening equipment which has become synonymous with quality, reliability and durability.”
Success has become a major part of their business and SCG have recently started to add more service staff to deal with the increase in machines in the field.
Confidence in SCG has certainly spread around as they have recently sold a Tesab machine to one of the largest companies in Scotland – W.H.Malcomn; for crushing duties at their Loanhead, Beith Quarry.
Malcomn’s have made considerable investment in crushing and screening equipment and this latest acquisition, a Tesab 800i Mobile Jaw Crusher has been sourced through the SCG dealership.
Replacing an older machine, the 880i will be operating as a primary crusher feeding a secondary cone in the quarry processing line.
Malcolm Construction operate a modern and versatile fleet of mobile crushing plants, screeners and associated equipment capable of processing quarried material as well as construction and demolition waste. Loanhead produces a full range of bulk fill to industry standard single size materials and also client specific aggregates can be agreed.
Paul, further commented, “It’s a first for them and they are very happy with the machine they have invested in! They have a reputation for quality and service and the Tesab 800i will enhance their machine fleet.”
Tesab 800i Jaw Crusher:
Based on the proven 10580, the New 800i delivered to Malcomn’s is designed specifically to crush primary rock at the quarry face.
Now featuring Tesab’s new and improved step deck vibrating feeders to improve material separation quality and the ability to handle dry, damp or wet material, it also boasts an additional 2-deck independent Pre-Screen for increased production making the 800i an exceptionally efficient rock crushing machine.
With a range of engines to suit any market, the 800i can be fed by excavator as a ‘stand-alone’ unit and can also integrate easily into the Tesab range of secondary crushers and screeners.
The Tesab 800i Mobile Jaw Crusher has an enviable production rate of up to 400tph and clearly is a machine that is engineered for power, built to last and designed specifically for the quarry market.
The future:
With the investment made in new premises and an enviable OEM portfolio combined with a vibrant order book the next stage of growth for SCG beckons. Whether crushing, screening or washing aggregates, in terms of processing SCG have the machine you need.
