New Large Doosan Excavator Offers Very High Performance and Fuel Efficiency
Doosan Infracore Construction Equipment has launched the new Stage IIIB compliant DX380LC-3 large crawler excavator. In addition to offering outstanding performance levels and exceptional fuel efficiency compared to other machines in the 34 to 42 tonne market segment, the new DX380LC-3 excavator offers as standard several features which rank among the best on the market, including improved visibility, comfort, controllability and ease of operation. A new joggle/shuttle control is a worldwide exclusive feature on new generation Doosan excavators.
The new DX380LC-3 excavator is designed to exceed customer requirements for quality, productivity, controllability, comfort, reliability and durability, with greatly reduced overall costs. The excavator is intended to handle a broad range of applications such as heavy earthmoving, road building, civil engineering, demolition, quarrying and large scale material-handling.
Highlights include:
Up to 22% increase in productivity (m3) to fuel consumption (l) ratio23% more pump flow40 tonne plus class size undercarriage for optimum stabilityA 15% increase in drawbar pullA 15% increase in front lifting capacityNew optional narrow (3 m) undercarriage
Higher power and fuel efficiency
The new DX380LC-3 excavator is powered by the Doosan DL08K 'common rail'6-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine meeting Stage IIIB engine emission regulations through the use of EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) and Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) after-treatment technologies. Combined with an 8% increase in torque, the Doosan DL08K engine delivers 5% more power [213 kW (286 HP)] at a lower (6% less) RPM of 1800.
The excavator offers a significant increase (+22%) in the productivity (m3) to fuel consumption (l) ratio. The overall reduction in fuel consumption is due to a combination of features in the new excavator design including lower engine speed; improved cooling efficiency with the oil cooler separated from the radiator; the new ECO gauge providing fuel consumption guidance for the operator; improved main control valves reducing energy loss and increasing efficiency; and additional sensors for improved electronic management of pump/engine/mcv. This allows a more efficient selection of flow/pressure/rpm to better match load requirements.
A new hydraulic system with a new electro-hydraulic control minimises pressure loss through the main control valve, thereby utilising engine power more effectively, maximizing pump usage and delivering more comfort, smoothness and accuracy.
High specifications
The operating weight of the DX380LC-3 excavator has been increased by 3.5 % to 39.2 tonne and the counterweight has been increased by 300 kg to 7400 kg. A new travel device in the DX380LC-3 has increased drawbar pull by 15% to 36.9 tonne and produced a 15% increase in swing torque.
New hydraulic pumps and valves increase main pump flow capacity by 23% and pilot flow has been increased by 11%, providing a combination of higher overall pressures and hydraulic flow to boost front, travel and power functions. A 5% increase in hydraulic pressure to 350-370 bar improves performance with higher lifting capabilities, faster cycle times and higher breakout forces. At 6 m reach at ground level, front lifting capacity has been boosted by 15%, while lifting capacity over the side is increased by 3%. The arm/bucket digging forces have been increased by up to 6%. Overall, the hydraulic system of the new generation DX380LC-3 excavator improves performance and productivity, with highly responsive joystick controls that give the operator what they expect.
Lower total cost of ownership
Providing outstanding stability, durability and robustness for extra tough applications, the heavy duty undercarriage on the DX380LC-3 excavator is the same as that used in the larger >40 tonne class DX420LC model with reinforced track links, track springs and sprockets as well as a more robust boom and arm with reinforced bushings. As a result, the service life of the machine has been extended significantly.
The engine bonnet on the excavator is in four parts to improve serviceability and ease of opening. Filters, valves and batteries are within easy reach for service work. Cooling capacity has been increased by 10 to 15% compared to the previous generation machines.
As well as offering more standard features than other excavators of its size on the market, there is a greatly expanded choice of options, including a new narrow (3 m) undercarriage and a new two-mode floating boom system. In the flotation mode, the boom is free to move upwards and downwards following the bucket and arm movements, whilst in the breaker mode, the boom is free to move downwards to maintain the optimum hammering effect.
Options for heavy duty applications include dual pump flow providing extra power for high flow attachments; a straight travel pedal; an oil-washed air cleaner; and added protection such as dual track guards and full length track guards.
Increased operator comfort
A new ROPS and OPG certified cab offers more space (+6%) for the operator. Direct control through the joysticks, which have new proportional thumb wheel switches and integrated buttons, provides precise, proportional control of attachments.
A new 7-inch colour high quality visual control console offers an attractive display and excellent functionality. All functions can be controlled both from the instrument panel as well as via the new jog/shuttle control next to the joystick, a feature exclusive to Doosan excavators. As a standard feature, the operator has access to a new attachment select and setting function, with multiple recordable preset values.
A new high-quality, heated air suspension seat reduces operator fatigue, while a new cab suspension system helps to cut vibration by 20% and reduce the noise in the cab to as low as 71 dB(A).
The cab is pressurised to prevent particles from entering the cab.
Lighting capability has been increased by 100% to facilitate working at night. A side camera is available as a safety option. Other convenient features include fully automatic climate control, a USB port to play music and videos, and more storage compartments.
