Dernaseer install barrel washer in Scotland

Just when it seemed like the once popular barrel washer had been replaced by the ever increasing use of logwashers to clean dirty aggregates Dernaseer have redesigned the scrubber barrel and recently installed their new model as part of a turnkey sand & gravel washing plant at Lovie Quarry & Concrete Products in Cowbog, Aberdeenshire.

Dernaseer Sales Director Martin Conway explains “sand and gravel producers often have to deal with difficult feed material and although logwashers can do an effective job in many cases there are other applications were the barrel washer is the best solution. The key advantage of the barrel is firstly that often it can accept an all in feed which reduces the need to separate the sand particles prior to scrubbing. Secondly, a barrel can accept much larger fragments and finally much larger tonnages can be achieved through the barrel. We totally redesigned our older traditional barrel to make it more efficient and user friendly”.

The Barrel Washer DSB25 features a 2.5m diameter x 5m long drum. The shell of the drum is manufactured from 12.5m thick rolled steel plate which is lined with 30mm thick Linatex “Linard” impact pads, kicker bars and extractor paddles. The robust barrel design incorporates a roller path that produces a concentric and smooth drive. Two 45kW Nord direct geared motors power the heavy duty truck tyres driving the barrel, which again provide a smooth, quiet drive which eliminates excessive vibration and load on the support structure.

The DSB25 was supplied to Lovies as part of a complete sand & gravel washing system which included a 1.8m x 6m three-deck washing screen fitted with polyurethane screens, 2 x DSP150 cyclone sand treatment plants, all link and stockpile conveyors and also incorporated the customer’s own cone crusher in a totally closed circuit. The installation of the plant, electrical control system and wiring were all carried out by Dernaseer’s own engineers.
