RFG kicks off the festive season with its popular Christmas Lunch
Rail Freight Group (RFG) hosted its hugely popular Christmas Lunch yesterday (11 December), encapsulating its tireless work to bring people together from across every part of UK rail freight and celebrate our dynamic and vibrant sector.
Every year, this firm fixture on the rail freight industry calendar gets better and better, welcoming hundreds of members and their guests, including customers, freight operators, ports and terminal operators, support service providers, politicians and enthusiasts.
It was great to see so many of our members and their guests attend, having fun, catching up, building new connections and celebrating another year with its challenges and successes.
As RFG Chair Chris Swan pointed out in his address, “While only 15% of the population use the passenger railway, 100% benefit from the freight railway. Everyone might not know it but from the food we eat to the houses we live in this industry is at the very heart of making Britain work.”
We were delighted to welcome Lord Hendy of Richmond Hill CBE as our guest of honour who voiced his personal support for the sector and reiterated the Government’s pledge to grow rail freight.
On the day, more than 800 members and guests helped us raise a record £8700 for our chosen charity the Railway Benefit Fund. A massive thank you to everyone who donated by buying tickets for our champagne raffle or by the many charity buckets that came around the room.
