CRONIMET Alfa tests SENNEBOGEN battery-powered excavator
The SENNEBOGEN 824 G Electro Battery was put through its paces during an extensive test run at CRONIMET Alfa GmbH in Munich's Aubing district, a company specializing in the recycling of stainless steel, ferroalloys, and superalloys. Driver Zoran Alexsic had the opportunity to test the fully electric machine in the hall while feeding a baling press and sorting materials. The focus was on the performance and practical suitability of the electric excavator model under real-life conditions...
What immediately struck Zoran was how quiet the excavator runs. This was a real relief, especially in the hall, where noise is a considerable nuisance. “It's pleasantly quiet. You don't have to take breaks to escape the noise,” he says. And even tight spaces have been taken into account – thanks to the integrated work area limitation, the boom does not hit the hall ceiling. This provides more space to work and a good feeling when driving.
Strong performance – even with just one battery pack
The SENNEBOGEN 824 G Electro Battery tested was equipped with a single lithium-ion battery pack and demonstrated impressive endurance. Depending on driving style and engine speed, the running time was between 1.5 and 3.5 hours. “That's really powerful for just one battery,” says Zoran. If necessary, the machine can also be equipped with two, three, or four battery packs, which further increases the operating time and offers maximum flexibility for different applications.
The 90 kW electric motor delivers full power at the point of use. “The battery-powered machine drives just like a diesel-powered one,” says Zoran. “You don't notice any difference in power – only that everything runs much more smoothly and quietly.”
Dual Power Mode enables continuous operation
A key highlight is the Dual Power Mode: the machine can not only be operated on battery power, but can also be supplied with power from the mains at the same time. During operation, the machine can be connected via a 63 A CEE plug and the battery can be recharged, which noticeably improves the workflow. Zoran: “Charging during operation is really practical. You can just keep going without losing any time.” Operation is extremely simple: just plug it in and you're ready to go. Depending on the configuration, up to three onboard chargers with a charging capacity of 22 kW each are possible, which corresponds to a total of 66 kW per hour. This enables short charging times and virtually uninterrupted operation.
Comfort meets intuitive operation
The excavator is also well thought out and operator-friendly in terms of comfort. The SENNEBOGEN 824 G Electro Battery is equipped with a modern SENcon control system that allows precise adjustment of the air conditioning, speed, and joystick settings. “The control system is very user-friendly and makes work enjoyable,” says Zoran. In addition, the comfortable seat, combined with a low-vibration cab, ensures a pleasant working day, even during longer shifts.
Operational efficiency
Electrical technology not only reduces emissions and noise, but also significantly lowers operating costs. The low consumption of the electric motor and efficient peak shaving contribute to significant cost savings. “There's no need to refuel at all. That's a real advantage, especially in a hall,” says Zoran. The low maintenance requirements and simple charging infrastructure of the battery-powered excavator also contribute to its cost-effectiveness.
The SENNEBOGEN 824 G Electro Battery has proven to be powerful and efficient in operation at CRONIMET Alfa GmbH. The combination of powerful performance, long battery life, easy handling, and low noise makes it a practical solution for recycling companies that are committed to sustainability.
